Dreams
Following your dreams is hard.
There's constant negativity thrown at you. Friends, relatives, and acquaintances will give you their opinions. Constantly.
Mostly, they believe they are doing you a favor, helping you to face reality and keep grounded.
The truth is all those opinions and concerns keep you down. They make you second guess the dreams. They make you want to be complacent and docile in a safe environment. Working away the day to maintain the normality of expected results.
Dreams are amazing things, they promote ambition, and create an environment of self improvement.
Small dreams are the best. They create a gratification of accomplishment while not being difficult to obtain.
Large dreams… Those are more challenging. Altering one's entire lifescape in order to create more permanent happiness is no small feat.
Large dreams create our very character. They motivate our underlying personality. They foster creation and ambition. But they are rarely an easy path.
What motivates you? What makes you want to work harder? What keeps you up at night trying to figure out how you can make it happen?
I warn you now, don't share those dreams too freely, for all the people in your life will put them down. Not intentionally, not to belittle you or stop you from achieving them, but from a sense of protection. The great “what if you fail”.
Don't listen. Follow your dreams. I'm here to tell you it won't be easy, but you can do it.
Dreams are accomplish-able. There is nothing you can't do. You might fail, I won't lie. But wouldn't you rather be in a position of having tried to follow your dreams instead of always wishing you had?
Failure sucks, but regret is far worse. Trust me, I know this for a fact.
So, now I'm following my dreams. Years of not doing what I want are gone. I'm done.
I'm following my dreams, I'm dedicating my life to making me happy, and finding others in it that want the same. I know what I have to do, and it won't be easy, but I'm going to do it, because my own happiness is worth it.
Maybe the dream will be altered, maybe I'll change my mind, but I'm going for it with all the effort I can muster.
I've done the research, I've asked the questions, I've faced the difficulties. And I know what I'm capable of. Anything.
I'm done with regret, I'm done with doubt and second guessing. I'm done with not being the me I want to be.
And I make you this promise:
If you have a dream, some life changing ultimate crazy fantasy, I promise you I will support it. I will even try to give you constructive advice. I want you to follow that dream, I want you to be happy too.
So go out there and get that promotion, get that new job, get the girl, go to Europe, move to a different place, be whatever you want. Because dreams are what make you who you are, and you're pretty awesome because of them.
